+ Ephesus stood as the gateway to Asia and its trade centre. It was also an important touristic city known for the Temple of Artemis (or Diana), one of the Seven Wonders of the world. The temple was linked with pornography and fornication and crime was frequent there as the city became a safe refuge for criminals. Magic and divination spread there. Ephesus was a sports and an administrative city as well.
